A Learning Partnership – our vision is that together we will develop:
Children’s key skills, thinking children and pupils who are informed, active and responsive citizens

18th May 2012
Highlights of the week include;
Events coming up ….
Coaches for trips
Prior to any educational visit a risk assessment is carried out by school staff and all safety checks are made. As part of this procedure only HCC Approved Coach Companies are used to transport pupils. Unfortunately, on Thursday, the Reception trip to London was delayed because the coach driver had an accident on the way to pick up the children at school. At the request of the school, a new driver was requested so that the journey could proceed safely. Your children’s safety is always our highest concern.
Walk to School Week
Next week is Walk to School Week. Why not use next week to commit to walking or cycling to school!
PTA Events
Sports 4 All
Thank you for supporting this sponsored event. The total amount raised was £1200.01. Well done to Chloe Hodgkinson, Reception, who raised the highest individual amount £65.00, and for Year 4 for being the highest class fundraiser £300.55. All classes raised a considerable amount and the school and Sports 4 All will both benefit from the funds raised.
Health Related Behaviour Survey
To support the Local Authority and the Primary Care Trust, our school will be participating in a very important Health Behaviour Survey amongst young people. Year 5 and Year 6 pupils will receive a letter with the details.
King James Bible
This academic year marks the 400th anniversary of the publication of the King James Bible, published in 1611. In the story of the King James Bible we can find the story of our nation. The school has been given a copy as a gift from Rt Hon Michael Gove MP, Secretary of State for Education who believes it is important that all pupils – of all faiths or none – should appreciate this icon, and its impact on our language and democracy. The gift has been funded through the generosity of private sponsors. The Bible will be an important addition to our school Library.
Flag Display
We have added a few more countries to our list of County family connections for our Flag display. The countries known to us are: Bangladesh, China, Caribbean, England, France, Germany, India, Ireland, Italy, Korea, Pakistan, Scotland, Wales, Australia, Zambia, South Africa, Kenya ……. If you have a connection with a country not listed, please let us know by the end of next week.
Healthy Living
We are committed at South Hill to promote Healthy Living and as part of the ‘Change 4 Life’, a National Scheme, each week we will give a suggestion of how to keep healthy: This week’s tip ‘be a veg head!’ next time you go to the shops with mum or dad, ask if you can be in charge of choosing the vegetables!
Certificates of the Week
Last week the following pupils achieved certificates of the week: Reception: Finlay Maunton-Gardiner, Year 1: all Year 1, Year 2: Jack Hussain, Year 3: Ben Partridge and Abdullah Rahman, Year 4: Shajida Rahman and Joshua Hickey, Year 5: Nathan Hudson, Genevieve Stanford-Gibbs, Silvio Birnie, Sam Weston and Talia Dussek, Year 6: Adam Fullagar, Katie Beck, Oscar Robinson and Sam Stokley.
