Guerreros ecológicos ¡Bienvenido a nuestra página web Eco Warrior! Sra. Tomsa Eco plomo

- Safeguarding in the Curriculum | southhill
Safeguarding in the Curriculum at South Hill School Safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do here at South Hill School. Great importance is placed on identifying opportunities in the taught curriculum for children to learn about safeguarding. Our broad curriculum gives pupils opportunities to experience life in all its diversity, to acquire knowledge, understanding, and skills that significantly impact personal development, behaviour, and welfare. It also equips our pupils with the knowledge and skills required for personal safeguarding. Our PSHE curriculum covers aspects of safeguarding which are appropriate to the child’s age. We are sensitive in our teaching and recognise that some more sensitive subjects need to be taught at an age-appropriate level, or at a small group or 1:1 level where a more urgent need arises. We plan to constantly challenge children to think deeply about their own personal physical and mental wellbeing. We value pupils’ questions and give them space for their own thoughts, ideas, and concerns. We give pupils’ opportunities across the curriculum to explore values, personal rights, responsibilities, and equal opportunities that develop moral concepts that impact positively on safeguarding, promote British values and prevent radicalisation and extremism. Safeguarding through the curriculum is more heavily planned within the following subjects: PSHE (No Outsiders, Picture News, The Christopher Winter Project (RSE and Drugs) Religious Education Science Computing/Online Safety lessons through Project Evolve EYFS - Personal, Social and Emotional Development Zones of Regulation Further safeguarding opportunities are continually planned into the curriculum. For example: Road safety Nurture Class Nurture Club Bikeability in Year 5 Poolside and water safety through swimming lessons in year 4 and 6 Fire awareness in Year 2 (including visits from the local fire service) Assemblies and workshops provided by NSPCC Y6 Transitions Plays and shows (building confidence) Be Smart online safety poster Online safety (targeted work as required) NSPCC PANTS work (targeted work as required) Protective Behaviours (targeted work as required) Anti-bullying week Wellbeing week Wellbeing festival Just Talk Week/Worry box assembly Religious festival assemblies Online Safety Day Black History week International Day We have developed an open and safe learning environment in which pupils express their views, seek help, and help others. The promotion of equality of opportunity and diversity, for pupils and staff, helps prevent any form of direct or indirect discriminatory behaviour. Our children learn to not tolerate any prejudiced behaviour. Our behaviour policy promotes making good choices and exhibiting good learning behaviours. Class times are a time for sharing ideas, addressing concerns, and promoting important values. Assembly time is used to promote safeguarding matters and explore themes. For example, we talk about anti-bullying, including cyber bullying and British values, including how these values are promoted in our multi–faith society. Staff and children are quick to challenge stereotypes and the use of derogatory language. Our school teaches the diversity of experiences and provides pupils with a comprehensive understanding of people and communities beyond their immediate experience through the use of the ‘no outsiders’ project. Throughout the curriculum, there are planned opportunities to promote all forms of equality and foster greater understanding of and respect for people of all faiths (and those with no faith), races, genders, ages, disabilities, and sexual orientations. Time is taken at the beginning of every new school year and through regular assemblies to reaffirm school values, expectations, and the ‘South Hill Way’.
- Art | southhill
Art Art Vision To progress pupils' skills and creativity in drawing, painting, collage, 3D art, textiles, printing, use of IT, sketchbooks and knowledge and for them to understand that this is the process of making art. Curriculum At South Hill, we want to inspire all of our pupils to experiment with art, to see it as an expression of self/mood and to take ownership of their work. Through the use of sketch books, pupils are encouraged to evaluate, experiment and work creatively to ensure they have a freedom of expression in the subject. In EYFS, pupils are introduced to the building the blocks of art through the key learning area ‘Expressive arts and Design’. In Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, pupil’s skills and knowl edge are developed through our golden threads, which progress throughout the school and allow us to build on previous knowledge and to make links between what we have already learnt and what we are learning now and in the future: We study a wide variety of a rtists and learn many artistic techniques. For example: In EYFS, pupils experiment with collage based on the work of Matisse In Year 1, pupils study close ups of flowers inspired by Georgia O’Keefe In Year 2, pupils print with leaves in the style of Andy Warhol In Year 3, pupils draw with pencil and charcoal in the style of Quentin Blake In Year 4, pupils research and recreate the work of Watercolour artist Adrienne Pavelka In Year 5, pupils study the history of sculpting to create an Egyptian decorated scarab beetle In Year 6, pupils learn to create a World War 2 landscape print in the style of Paul Nash . Arts Mark Gold and local links South Hill have been awarded Gold in the ‘Arts Mark’ to reflect ‘…children's understanding of arts and artists from a wider variety of different cultural heritages, so that cultural diversity is being promoted through your arts curriculum…’. We also have a strong link with our local secondary school and a local private school, who run workshops with Upper Key Stage 2 pupils every year to extend pupil’s skill development. Whole School Art Gallery We run an annual art week, where as a school we work with one topic or theme (for example ‘Patterns in Nature’). We explore different skills and styles and produce a final piece of art. This art work is then displayed in a whole school art gallery to which parents are invited to view with their children. Parents can purchase their children’s work, treating the event as a true art gallery. Art competitions We encourage children from EYFS up to Year 6 to take part in art competitions, run and judged both in house and by external companies. For example, we have entered the ‘Dacorum Young Artist’ competition and the ‘CPRE Art’ competition. As a school, we celebrate all who enter, by displaying all entries in assembly and awarding certificates and house points. Long Term Plan Subject Overview Examples of knowledge organisers EYFS Year 2 Year 4 Year 6 Pupil Voice "I am allowed to get messy in art." Artsmark Gold Award 'You clearly value the Arts and recognise their contribution to your mission statement of 'Building Character, Learning Together' at South Hill Primary School. You have used your Artsmark journey to develop children's understanding of arts and artists from a wider variety of different cultural heritages, so that cultural diversity is being promoted through your arts curriculum and your annual International Day. Music is a growing strength within your overall arts offer with lessons provided by a specialist music teacher. Your partnership with Hertfordshire Music Service is providing opportunities for children in Key Stage 2 to participate in instrumental tuition, including ukulele and Djembe drumming. Pupils can also participate in Choir extra-curricular club and have opportunities to showcase and celebrate their musical achievements locally and at national events, such as at Young Voices. Astutely, you have capitalised on the skills and expertise of various school stakeholders, including a parent who is an animator. This opportunity, along with the chance for children to see a range of artists and makers at work at the Dacorum Arts Centre, has enabled pupils to develop an understanding of carer pathways and job opportunities in the Arts. Teachers' confidence has increased as a result of their training from local secondary colleagues in drawing, watercolour and collagraph printing. Congratulations on completing your Artsmark journey. We are delighted to inform you that your setting has been awarded an Artsmark Gold Award! Award. Congratulations! ' Artsmark Arts Council England

- Wellbeing for Children | southhill
Wellbeing for Children “South Hill Primary School is a nurturing environment in which wellbeing forms the heart of the school’s culture.” Ofsted, July 2024 At South Hill Primary School, children’s wellbeing is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe and valued, and we place mental health and emotional wellbeing at the centre of school life. Through a whole school approach, we help children develop confidence, resilience and strong relationships, giving them the skills they need to manage challenges and care for their wellbeing both now and in the future. A Caring and Supportive School Environment Wellbeing is woven into everyday life at South Hill. Children are supported through: • Movement and mindfulness activities such as the Daily Mile and GoNoodle • The Zones of Regulation, helping children recognise and manage their emotions • A Friendship Bench encouraging kindness and inclusion at playtimes • A welcoming outdoor environment including sensory trails, fitness equipment and the Smokey Trail • Healthy daily lunches • A calm, positive approach to behaviour • A strong “Just Talk” culture, where children feel listened to and supported All staff are trained in Therapeutic Thinking and trauma informed approaches, ensuring children feel understood and supported. Pastoral Support We provide tailored pastoral care to meet individual needs. Our support includes access to a school counsellor, Emotional Literacy Support Assistant (ELSA), Drawing and Talking therapy, nurture provision, and family support services. Every classroom has a worry box or worry monster, giving children a safe way to share concerns. Celebrating Wellbeing Together We mark key events such as Children’s Mental Health Week, Feeling Good Week, and our much-loved Wellbeing Festival, which brings our school community together through music, creativity and fun. This year’s Mental Health Week theme, “The Power of Belonging,” helped children explore kindness, inclusion and celebrating differences—key foundations for confidence and happiness. Pupil Voice: The Power of Us We are proud to be working towards the Wellbeing Quality Mark, further strengthening our commitment to every child’s emotional wellbeing. As part of this work, we run “The Power of Us,” a pupil led initiative for Key Stage 2 children. This project ensures that pupil voice is central to wellbeing provision and that children play an active role in shaping their school environment. Through this initiative, pupils develop important life skills, including: • Confidence and teamwork • Responsibility and leadership • Problem solving and resilience Children meet weekly with Mrs Khan (our School Counsellor), to plan their and lead the project of their choice, share ideas and develop leadership, teamwork and resilience. this is because we believe children’s voices matter. Pupils reflected positively on their experiences: • Mollie: “I enjoyed everything about this project.” • Andreea: “I really liked looking through all the catalogues and budgeting.” • Rose: “I like planting and watering the plants and seeds.” • Aidan: “I have enjoyed planting in the beautiful sunshine.” • Isaac: “I have enjoyed helping to change our school in a positive way.” These reflections demonstrate how meaningful pupil involvement supports wellbeing, builds pride in the school community, and strengthens a sense of belonging. - International Day | southhill
International Day Each year at South Hill School, we celebrate 'International Day'. Each year group represents a country from around the world which is also representative of our South Hill communities. For that day, year groups represent and learn more about their chosen country and can wear traditional clothing from their celebrated country or colours of the flag. All pupils learn about the geography of their chosen country and where to locate the country on a map, what continent the country is part of and what countries are nearby, we might learn about famous buildings and landmarks. For PE, we are lucky to have Don Rae Academy join us to teach traditional dances from each country. Make sure you come in and watch our fantastic performances in the afternoon! For MFL (Modern Foreign Language), all year groups learn a few key phrases and words. We also focus on learning a traditional song! All year groups have the opportunity to taste food originating from that country. Some year groups complete a food tasting activity while other year groups make the traditional food themselves. Some year groups look at the religion and the history of their chosen country, focusing on some significant people from that country and how the country has possibly changed over time. The countries remain the same each year, ensuring that our children gain a rich understanding of different cultures and traditions from all over the world. The countries represented are: Reception- Bangladesh Year 1- Poland Year 2- India Year 3- Romania Year 4- Portugal Year 5- Turkey Year 6- Ghana "I wanted to pass on my thanks to the staff who made today (international day) at school so special. My son came home very happy and inspired by the country (and food!) of Bangladesh. The dance performance at the end of the day was wonderful and you could see how hard children and staff worked to make this happen." Parent of a pupil in EYFS

On two days of action each year, the Outdoor Classroom campaign encourages teachers to take children outdoors to learn and play. All year round, the movement campaigns for more outdoor learning. This years Summer term date was in May. Every class enjoyed an outdoor learning session with a variety of activities including orienteering, bug hunting, den building, potion making and natural art. There was positive feedback from both children and staff . We look forward to participating in the Autumn term day in November.

- Year 2 Production | southhill
Children of the World – A Journey Through Christmas Traditions This year’s Key Stage 1 production, Children of the World, took us on a magical journey to discover how Christmas is celebrated across the globe. Guided by Gabriel and the angels, children from countries as far afield as China, Malawi, Poland, and Australia travelled to the manger to share their unique customs. Each group brought something special—songs, stories, and gifts creating a beautiful celebration of diversity and togetherness. Our Year 2 pupils shone brightly with wonderful singing, heartfelt solo performances, lively dancing, and confident acting. It was a joy to see their hard work come to life on stage. A huge thank you to the entire KS1 team for the incredible effort in preparing the children for this year’s Nativity. The performance was truly outstanding, and we couldn’t be prouder. At South Hill, we value every opportunity for our children to express themselves beyond the classroom. Events like these remind us how important it is to celebrate creativity and give pupils the chance to experience the joy of performing. “Watching the children bring this story to life was magical. They worked so hard and showed such confidence and joy. It is moments like these that make teaching so special.” — Mrs. Albery, KS1 Teacher Thank you to everyone involved, I can imagine a performance like this is not an easy task! - Travel Plan | southhill
School Travel Plan Our School Travel Plan at South Hill Primary School aims to encourage a healthy lifestyle and positive well-being for all. We work closely with Herts Travel Team and we currently hold a “Good” Award for our Travel Plan. Some of the aims of the School Travel Plan include: Improved safety of pupils due to less traffic. Less congestion around the school and in the local community. Healthier, happier, more alert pupils, thanks to active travel such as, cycling and walking. Avoiding parking issues around the school ground Less pollution around the school and local area. Improved road awareness of pupils. Greater staff health and well-being. Improved journey reliability for staff, pupils and parents. As a school, we actively promote walking, using a scooter, park and ride or cycling as a way of getting to school each day. Additionally, during our Walk to School Week we again encourage and record how children get to school each day that week. This is a great opportunity to help children reach their minimum 60 minutes of exercise per day. At South Hill, we ask that no cars enter the school car park during drop off and collection. Parking is very restricted around the immediate school site. Please be considerate to our local residents if parking nearby to the school or consider parking and walking. Within the school grounds, we also have a scooter station to keep bikes and scooter dry from the weather! Tom, our school crossing officer regularly visits school Tom sends the following message to keep your children safe. 1) A reminder to stay on the footpath until Tom call you to cross, do not cross before. 2) Any children who bring bikes and scooters must get off and push them across the road. 3) Parents, for the safety of all PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON YELLOW LINES or close to the crossing patrol area. We thank Tom very much for helping to keep our pupils safe
