Welcome to the Year 5 Class Page  

   

We are so excited for the year ahead in Oak and Silver Birch classes. Our year starts with exciting topics such as an exploration of the Viking Age in History, building upon our knowledge of invaders and settlers. Later on in the Autumn, we will explore Earth and Space, including a trip to The National Space Centre in Leicester as well as learning to draw eyes in Art and using this as inspiration to sculpt a Dragon's eye in DT.

 

In the Spring term, we will learn topics such as the Ancient Egyptians and their way of life in History and in Geography we will be learning about what life is like in the Alps. We will be designing and sewing our own South American inspired bags in DT and developing our drawing and montage skills through self-portraits in Art.

Over the Summer term, we will focus on local rivers and learn about how rivers are used across the world. We will be inspired by History makers such as Emmeline Pankhurst, Mahatma Gandi and Martin Luther King as we consider how we can change the world for the better. We will design and make Pneumatic bridges in DT and learn to draw perspective landscapes in Art. Oak class is taught by Mrs Farmery on a Monday and Tuesday and Mrs Cavenagh-Mainwaring on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday and our Teaching assistant is Mrs Woodgate. 

 

Silver Birch is taught by Mr Petitt and our teaching assistant is Miss Fawcett.

   

PE Lessons will be taught on the following days:  

• Oak – Monday and Wednesday

• Silver Birch – Tuesday and Wednesday 

On these days, pupils need to be wearing their PE kit on arrival and will remain in their PE kit for the day.
